A Segway Lesson, Then Muscle Beach and Venice's Skate Bowls

A two-hour guided Segway ride on the Santa Monica and Venice beachfront that starts with a 30-minute practice session.

Ride a Segway to Muscle Beach and Venice.

This is a guided Segway ride along the beach between Santa Monica and Venice, about two hours long, run by Another Side Of Los Angeles Tours. It opens with a 30-minute orientation on the machine. The operator's own description of the route is the Santa Monica Pier to the Venice Beach Pier and back.

The Viator itinerary has two 45-minute stops, one on Santa Monica State Beach and one at Venice Beach. Everything else on it, from the Pier to Muscle Beach and the skatepark, is a pass-by.

The card below opens the Viator listing. It covers the Segway and helmet, the guide's narration, the 30-minute orientation, and bottled water with small snacks. Gratuities and hotel pickup are not included. This listing will not take a booking for one person: it needs at least two travelers and takes up to 15.

The First Half Hour Is a Lesson

The orientation is part of every departure, and the listing counts it as 30 minutes. First-timers show up often in the reviews. A 2022 team-building group wrote that only two of them had ridden a Segway before, and everyone was moving confidently within minutes of instruction. A 2021 traveler described the practice as a few spins around a parking lot. One 2019 traveler struggled with confidence, and the guide ended up towing that rider for most of the tour.

The limits are physical. The listing sets a minimum age of 8 and a maximum weight of 250 lbs (113 kg), and pregnant travelers cannot ride. Riders 8 to 15 need a parent who signs the waiver and rides along; riders 16 and 17 need a parent to sign but may ride without one. The listing's checkbox says suitable for all physical fitness levels, yet its own written note is stricter: a decent level of fitness and the ability to climb stairs without help. It does not recommend the tour for anyone with a spinal injury.

Venice Gets the Other 45-Minute Stop

Venice Beach is the other 45-minute stop on the itinerary. The pass-bys around it are the Muscle Beach outdoor weight pen, the Venice Skatepark with its concrete bowls, and the boardwalk itself. The operator's tour page also lists the graffiti walls, street performers and the Venice canals, and travelers in 2019, 2021 and 2023 mention seeing the canals. The canals are not on the Viator itinerary; treat them as the guide's call on the day.

The Pier Is Something You Pass

The listing names the Santa Monica Pier, Pacific Park on top of it and the Heal the Bay Aquarium, and marks all three as pass-bys. The Santa Monica stop is the 45 minutes on Santa Monica State Beach, the sand the hotel faces. Plan on the Ferris wheel and the coaster as a view from the sand. A 2024 traveler's plan fits around that: ride in the morning, then lunch on the Pier.

Times, Weather and Group Size

As of October 12, 2026, the listing's calendar shows weekday departures at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 AM and at 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 PM. Weekends run mornings only, at 8:00, 9:00 and 10:00 AM. A 2019 traveler took the owner's suggestion of an early start and found the beach uncrowded, and a 2025 morning group also noted little foot traffic.

The tour runs rain or shine. The operator suggests comfortable clothes and flat shoes, warm layers in fall and winter, and light gloves and a winter cap on cold days. Group size swings: travelers in 2018, 2019 and 2025 each turned out to be the only booking on their departure, and a 2024 team of 16 rode with two guides.

📍 Meet on the beach side of Hotel Casa del Mar, 1910 Ocean Way, Santa Monica. The hotel's sign faces the sand; the Ocean Way side has none, typically just a valet stand. The guide waits on a Segway in an Another Side Tours shirt. The listing asks for arrival 15 minutes before departure and for contact with the operator after booking to confirm the time. The operator's confirmation says anyone more than five minutes late is left behind.

Driving in, the operator points to the all-day beach lot just south of the hotel or the metered spaces on Ocean Way. Parking is paid separately, and so is the guide's tip. Cancellation through this listing is free up to 24 hours before departure. Booked directly with the operator, the terms are no cancellations or refunds within seven days.

A morning departure leaves the rest of the day for the Pier on foot.
