The lawn sits in Brooklyn Bridge Park, directly beneath the span Emily Warren Roebling helped carry to its 1883 opening. When her husband Washington fell ill during construction, she learned the engineering, relayed his instructions on site, and managed the work through to completion. An interpretive marker on the plaza lays out her role, beside a portrait most passersby have never connected to the bridge overhead. The grass faces the East River and the lower Manhattan skyline, with Jane's Carousel turning a short walk north. Evening light on the towers draws a steady, unhurried crowd.
