A Miami Weekend of Murals, Calle Ocho and Salt Air
Three compact Miami days: a Calle Ocho coffee window and a live-music dinner, Wynwood's murals and an open-air market, then the southern tip of Miami Beach for pier air and a long brunch. Each act stays inside one neighborhood, and the Beach-to-mainland hops are planned transfers, not walks.
📍 The map, at a glance
Six pins, three neighborhoods. La Ventanita and Tumbao are on Calle Ocho in Little Havana; Wynwood Walls and Wynwood Marketplace sit about 300 m apart; South Pointe Park Pier and Sweet Liberty are both on Miami Beach. This is not one continuous walk — check current hours and plan a ride between the mainland and the Beach.
☕ Friday · Calle Ocho, coffee window first
Start at La Ventanita, the walk-up window at Versailles on Calle Ocho; the restaurant's own site traces the format to founder Felipe Valls Sr. and calls the counter a stomping ground for Cuban exiles and an outpost for the media. Order a cafecito and croquetas standing up, then head about two miles east to Tumbao, whose Friday hours run 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. for Cuban plates and cocktails. Live Cuban and Latin bands play Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights; call for that evening's set time, and arrive early for a table. Book ahead, and plan a ride rather than a walk.
🎨 Saturday · Murals, then the market
Wynwood Walls opens at 10:30 a.m. and closes at 6:30 p.m. daily; general admission is booked online at $12 for adults, $5 for ages 13–17, $10 for 65 and over and free for 12 and under, and the complex holds more than 40 murals plus three indoor galleries. Then walk about 300 m to Wynwood Marketplace on NW 2nd Ave, whose Saturday hours start at noon, for stalls, street food and bars. Arrive at the Walls as the gates open if you want frame-free photos.
🌊 Sunday · Pier air, then a long brunch
South Pointe Park Pier at 1 Washington Ave is where Miami Beach runs out: the city lists the park as open sunrise to sunset, the shoreline faces the channel, and the downtown skyline sits behind you. Morning is the calmest window. Then head about two miles north to Sweet Liberty at 237-B 20th St in Collins Park, where Sunday brunch runs noon to 5 p.m.; the oyster and cocktail lists carry it past lunch. Book a weekend table.
☔ Plan B
Rain: drop the pier and the market; put the hours into Wynwood Walls' three indoor galleries and a long lunch at Tumbao or Sweet Liberty.
Crowds: reach the Walls at the 10:30 a.m. opening, order at the cafecito window instead of sitting down, and skip the market if the aisles are jammed.
Tighter budget: the pier and the park cost nothing; put the money into one coffee stop and one sit-down meal instead of two.
