Miami Beach’s Beginner Surf Lesson Starts Before You Hit the Water

Learn the pop-up on the sand, then spend 60–80 minutes in the ocean with an instructor during a two-hour shared lesson at the island’s southern tip.

Learn the pop-up on the sand in Miami Beach.

South Beach is usually photographed from Ocean Drive. The surf is down at the other end of the island, where Washington Avenue runs out at the water, and that is where this lesson meets.

The two hours break into 20 to 30 minutes of drills on the sand and 60 to 80 minutes in the ocean. An instructor stays with the group through the ocean segment. Whatever is left of the two hours is yours to keep practising.

Beginner to lower intermediate is the stated level. Surfboards come with the lesson.

A shared lesson caps at six travelers. The van at the meeting point doubles as storage, so a phone and a wallet have somewhere to go while you are in the water.

Instruction is in English. Twelve is the youngest the lesson takes.

Sand First, Then the Longer Half

The first 20 to 30 minutes happen on the beach with the board lying still. Where to lie on it, where the hands go, how the pop-up works with no water moving underneath. Then the group paddles out for 60 to 80 minutes with the instructor.

On flat days the session becomes a land lesson, then ocean practice on either surfboards or stand-up paddleboards. The operator wrote that fallback into the listing itself.

Moderate fitness is the stated requirement. Paddling is most of what your arms will do.

The Meeting Point Is a Parking Lot at the Island's End

🅿️ The lesson meets at the parking lot at 3 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, FL 33139, at the southern tip of the island beside South Pointe Park.

Look for the white Nissan van with a black roof rack and orange plates reading 698CF. Everyone meets at that start point, and there is no hotel pickup. Public transport options run nearby.

The lesson ends back where it began.

Who the Lesson Is Built Around

The listing names beginners through lower intermediate as the level, and one booking takes up to six travelers.

The operator lists who it does not recommend the lesson for:

  • travelers with spinal injuries
  • pregnant travelers
  • travelers with poor cardiovascular health

Service animals are allowed. Tickets are accepted on a phone or on paper, one per booking.

What the 4.6 Is Actually Averaging

Seventy-five ratings sit behind that figure. They come from two pools that disagree: 21 ratings averaging 3.9, and 54 averaging 4.9. The headline number averages both together.

Both pools are tied to this lesson's own product record.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled start and the refund is full. Inside 24 hours there is none. The operator also cancels for bad weather or when too few travelers book.

Times run on Eastern. Two hours at the end of Washington Avenue, and the rest of South Beach is still north of you.
