Description

Christopher Joshua Benton's site-specific, kinetic mirrored sphere is partially embedded in the sand at Faena Beach. Towering twenty-seven feet high and expanding forty-four feet across, the sculpture features more than 7,000 mirrored facets that move with the wind to create the appearance of a giant spinning disco ball. Its re-imagined geography reflects the countries that have contributed to Miami's cultural landscape, with central connections to Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America. Throughout the day, the artwork transforms between sculpture, public plaza, and concert venue, serving as a temporary public gathering and performance space. During Miami Art Week, the group Major Lazer will headline an exclusive concert at the structure.
