A Free Lakeside Garden With Gandhi’s Peace Memorial

Walk ten acres of lakeside paths in Pacific Palisades, where part of Gandhi's ashes rest in a thousand-year-old stone sarcophagus.

Reserve a free garden slot.

🕊️ How the Quiet Visit Works

Start with the free advance reservation for general garden visits. Gardens open Wednesday through Saturday and on Sunday afternoon, and each booking carries an arrival window of 10 AM to 11:30 AM or 1 PM to 3 PM. Reservations open every Saturday at 10 AM Pacific for the week ahead, while separate arrival arrangements apply for select special visits. Guests can stay until 4:30 PM. Ask at the Visitor Center for the small bags of healthy food set aside for children, the only food the swans and fish should get. Children stay beside an adult and keep voices low. Bring a snack for after.

The memorial dates to the 1950 opening, when a portion of Gandhi's ashes arrived from India and was enshrined in a thousand-year-old Chinese stone sarcophagus. Paths and benches stay quiet for meditation, and the gift shop remains closed for now.
