🎻 Sunday at Domino Square

🍂 What the Afternoon Holds

Domino Park marks the fall harvest with a festival in Domino Square on Sunday, October 18, from 1 PM to 4 PM. Brooklyn Contra leads the centerpiece, a barn dance set to live music from Petrichord, a band playing traditional Appalachian and Irish tunes. Around the dancing, Tash Kouri does airbrush face and body painting, Greg's Trees brings a pumpkin patch to the square, and Frita Batidos serves hot cider and fall snacks. Fall crafts and games fill the rest of the afternoon.

💃 Learning the Steps

Contra is an easy folk dance close to square dancing, with some swing dance flair, and it grew out of northern Appalachia. Brooklyn Contra runs the dancing for the first ninety minutes, starting at 1 PM, and each dance is taught before the band plays it. No partner is necessary, which makes it easy to arrive alone and join a line. Later, Daysee Studio runs drop-in photo sessions from 2 PM to 4 PM, and slots are booked at the Domino Park Info Tent.

🎟️ Getting In

Entry is free, and Domino Park lists a free RSVP on its event page. Arrive close to 1 PM to catch the first dance, then stay for crafts and cider once the band wraps up. Organizers also ask guests to bring gently used baby and child items for North Brooklyn Angels and its Angel Babies drive. The afternoon suits families, first-time dancers and anyone after a free outdoor plan this weekend. Anyone hoping for a quiet park visit should choose another hour.
