A Clear Kayak Up the Silver River to Its Headspring
Two guided hours from Silver Springs State Park's paddle launch, upriver to the main spring and back, by clear kayak or wood board.
This is a guided two-hour paddle on the Silver River inside Silver Springs State Park. The listing sits under Orlando, but the meeting point is the park's paddle launch in Ocala, a separate drive to plan for. From the launch the group heads upstream under oak and cypress to the wide opening at the main spring, where the park's glass-bottom boats set out, then turns back.
The park notes a slight current running against you on the paddle to the headsprings, so the harder half is the way out.

The booking covers your craft, a paddle, a life vest and the guide. Pick the clear two-person kayak or a handmade wood paddleboard when you book; the board is priced slightly higher. Gratuity is extra.

The operator says it leads groups to the stretches where it sees the most wildlife, and also that it cannot guarantee sightings. Its itinerary singles out one wider section of the river as a spot manatees like.
Travelers writing in January through March describe manatees passing under their boats, while several who wrote in April and May saw none. One May visitor put it down to the season, and reviews from July and August mention manatees again. Trip reports also list alligators, turtles, otters, fish and birds. The operator's own tip is to book a morning tour for the strongest chance at manatees.
The Monkeys Got Here Before Tarzan Did

The monkeys along the Silver River are rhesus macaques. Local folklore says they were let loose while Tarzan Finds a Son was filmed here in 1939, but University of Florida researchers note they were in Silver Springs before filming and none appear in the movie. Their account credits Colonel Tooey, who managed the glass-bottom boats in the 1930s and is reported to have released about six on a river island to draw tourists. The monkeys swam to the forest.
Feeding wild monkeys has been illegal in Florida since February 2018, and the state wildlife agency warns that rhesus macaques can carry herpes B, a potentially fatal disease in people if not treated immediately. Keep snacks stowed while they are near. Some groups watch them on the bank; others paddle two hours without seeing one.
A Kayak for Two, or a Board of Your Own
Most guests have never kayaked or paddleboarded, the operator says, so every tour opens with a lesson. The kayak on this listing is a clear two-person boat that shows the riverbed through the hull. The other choice is one of the operator's handmade wood paddleboards. Justin Murray, one of the brothers behind the company, told Spectrum News 13 in 2025 that manatees are "definitely way easier" to see from a paddleboard than from a kayak sitting lower on the water.
A couple in their seventies wrote that they had a bit of trouble maneuvering the tandem kayak and would go solo next time; on this listing, the one-person craft is the board. The listing rates the tour suitable for all physical fitness levels, and the upstream leg is the part that asks the most of your arms.
Go Right as You Pull In, and Skip the Main Gate
The meeting point is the paddle launch at the south end of the park's main lot, 5656 E Silver Springs Blvd. The operator's directions: go right as you turn in, drive all the way down, and park closest to the launch, to the right of the park's main entrance.
You never go through the main entrance; your guide waits at the launch in a royal blue long-sleeved shirt. The operator asks for arrival 30 minutes early and an online waiver signed beforehand, and the guide texts details the day before. Two travelers suggest allowing an hour, one for finding the lot and one for the restroom and the park's launch fee line. Parking is on you. The park posts admission at eight dollars per vehicle of two to eight people, or five dollars for a single occupant, and a four-dollar launch fee per private vessel. One traveler on this tour wrote that the launch fee was paid to the park in its own line, separate from the tour price.
Departures leave at 8:30 AM, 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; if the operator calls a tour off for weather, it refunds in full. There is nowhere to step out along the river, so use the restroom first. Water and snacks can come along, alcohol is not allowed in the park, and whatever you bring goes home with you. Wear clothes that can get wet, and the slight current is with you on the paddle back to the launch.
