🦐 The tasting stop
A free spoonful of Sun Yum XO sauce, one level down at Pearl River Mart Foods. The first ingredient is non-GMO expeller-pressed canola oil; dried scallops, wild-caught Louisiana shrimp, shallots, garlic, sesame oil, Thai chili, organic cane sugar and five more follow. The label reads no additives, and the sauce is medium-spicy. Scallops, shrimp and sesame are the allergens named. The listing says nothing about rice, noodles or a portion, so expect a taste, not a plate.

Upstairs in the same Chelsea Market building, the stops fit either session. Very Fresh Noodles, at 409 W. 15th St., posts 11 AM to 8 PM Monday to Saturday with last call around 7:30 PM, and 11 AM to 6 PM Sunday with last call around 5:30 PM. Friday leaves four hours after the tasting, Sunday two. Ayada, on the same concourse, serves Thai until 10:30 PM Friday and 9 PM Sunday. The Lobster Place, at 75 9th Ave, is open until 9 PM daily, its seafood market until 8 PM. The concourse runs 7 AM to 10 PM.
🚇 Timing, prices, getting there
Both sessions run 2 to 4 PM, Friday November 6 and Sunday November 8. All of it sits inside Chelsea Market: Pearl River Mart Foods on the lower level at 75 9th Ave, and the noodles, Thai food and seafood hall one floor up, the noodle shop facing 409 W. 15th St. The A, C, E and L stop at 14th Street and 8th Avenue, about six minutes on foot west. Neither listing asks for a ticket or a sign-up. Sun Yum's own shop and Pearl River Mart's product page give the same prices: 2 ounces US$10, 6 ounces US$25.
