💦 Push Button Splash

Push a button, get a shower. James Forten Playground on Underhill Avenue in Brooklyn hands kids an on demand push button that switches on the water sprinklers, which keeps the spray pad dry and conserves water whenever it sits quiet.

The generous footprint gives kids ample room to run off energy and test their motor skills. Built play structures share the space with a loose collection of community shared plastic toys, and that stash of shared toys tends to pull a crowd of its own. On warm days the sprinklers add another way to cool down between laps.

The playground works as a lively neighborhood hub where children play together, and on site restrooms make a longer session far easier on parents. The park is open daily from 6 AM to 9 PM, with the same window every day of the week. Pack a towel and a change of clothes, then let the kids decide whether the toys or the water win the afternoon.
