🎃 The Blaze at Van Cortlandt Manor

🌙 The Night Path Through the Manor

North of the city in Croton-on-Hudson, the grounds of Van Cortlandt Manor transform each fall as more than 7,000 hand-carved jack-o'-lanterns illuminate the 18th-century riverside estate. Sculptures, towering archways, and glowing historic displays line the outdoor path, centered on the Pumpkin Planetarium, where an arched tunnel of star-cut pumpkins glows overhead to an original soundtrack. The experience focuses on imaginative illuminated art rather than haunted frights, creating a family-oriented evening walk that runs select dates through November 8.

🎠 Trail Terrain and Pacing

The self-guided loop typically takes about 45 minutes to stroll at a leisurely pace. Highlights along the walk include a functioning jack-o'-lantern carousel and Literary Lane, where classic story illustrations receive glowing jack-o'-lantern treatments. The trail is step-free but unpaved, featuring gravel, woodchips, and some narrow or sloped paths. While official guidance lists the route as wheelchair accessible, the soft unpaved terrain can require extra effort when navigating strollers or mobility equipment after dark, and especially wide strollers may encounter tight spots along narrower stretches.

🎟️ Train Logistics and Ticket Details

All admissions must be purchased online in advance. Standard timed tickets start at 24 dollars on select off-peak weekday nights, while peak weekend adult slots run roughly 52 to 62 dollars depending on entry time. Popular evening slots sell out quickly with no waitlist; for date flexibility, single-use FLEX tickets start at 129 dollars and admit visitors even on sold-out nights, arriving any time up to the last time slot of the night. Hospitality areas like the Gourd & Goblet Tavern require separate combo tickets. Traveling from Manhattan is a dedicated night outing: Metro-North's Hudson Line reaches Croton-Harmon in about 50 minutes, and the manor sits 0.8 miles from the station. While a five-minute local cab or rideshare connects the station to the gates, evening vehicle availability can vary, so verify return train timetables before setting out.
